Wartime Advice

The following pages contain gardening advice at the time of the Second World War. Most of this comes from the Ministry of Agriculture’s Monthly Allotment & Garden Guide’s courtesy of Marilynn Stewart of www.earthlypursuits.com. I am wondering how the weekly/monthly advice given back in the 1940′s is still relevant today given the fact that our climate is changing and the seasons are beginning earlier and ending later? Having said that the general advice is that everything depends on the weather; no one should try sowing seeds when the weather is still bad and the soil is cold and wet as the seeds would just rot so a good dose of common sense is required and not to stick rigidly to all of the advice given.
